Air/Water Isolation: In a 4-hole system, two holes carry air (one for drive air and one for exhaust air) and one hole carries water. The gasket seals these paths to ensure air and water pressure are maintained and don't leak or cross paths, which would cause the handpiece to operate inefficiently or not at all.
