Description
This bur is a "workhorse" instrument designed for the rapid removal of old restorations. Unlike standard operative burs that may stall or break when hitting metal, the JP1 features a specially engineered blade geometry with fine cross-cuts (dentates). This allows it to slice through metal substructures, PFM crowns, and amalgam fillings efficiently without clogging or chattering.
The Pear shape (based on the standard #331 bur profile) is particularly versatile because it provides a rounded internal line angle for cavity preparation while being robust enough to cut slots in crowns for removal.
Key Features
-
High-Performance Metal Cutter - Specifically designed to cut through Gold, Amalgam, Nickel-Chrome, and PFM (Porcelain Fused to Metal) crowns.
-
Replaces GW1 - Functionally identical to the SS White "Great White #1" bur, offering the same cutting speed and feel.
-
Pear Shape (331/1931) - The rounded-end taper shape allows for both initial entry and wall contouring during restoration removal.
-
Reduced Chatter - The advanced blade design cuts smoothly through mixed materials (like porcelain and metal) with minimal vibration.
-
One-Piece Construction - Typically manufactured from a single piece of tungsten carbide for maximum strength and reduced breakage risk at the neck.
-
Time Saving - Cuts significantly faster than standard carbide burs, reducing chair time for crown removal procedures.
